At ABC Handicapping, our mission is to simplify the process for picking winners so that everyone (beginners and experts alike) can participate in this wonderful sport. The modern handicapping process is broken. It's too complex for new players. Don't believe it? Ask a complete beginner to read the DRF and start betting based on what they've read. Within moments, they'll put the paper down and start betting on horse names or silks. The DRF is a phenomenal newspaper, but it caters only to the players who have years of experience betting the horses. There is no "simplified handicapping" angle for newish players (or those who just want to have fun wagering without acquiring a migraine from trying to discern every bit of information on the page). Because of the complexity involved in modern handicapping, our audience is dwindling. Each year, fewer and fewer new players join our ranks which is a major cause for concern in our industry.ABC Handicapping provides a streamlined handicapping process using the most essential elements in picking winners: early speed, late speed and overall performance. For those that want additional handicapping elements to consider, we show: layoff time, class moves and distance switching. Those are the only elements we focus on because they work. While our pace numbers make it easy for a beginner to start betting the horses with no more than 5 or 10 minutes of reading, expert players will appreciate our pace figures as they can't be found anywhere else.
Our proprietary formulas have been in the making since 1994! That's over 30 years of writing and analyzing code and manually building databases. Nobody has what we have. Nobody.
The basics of ABC Handicapping:
- A1 = fastest early pace horse
- A2 = second fastest early pace horse
- B1 = fastest late pace horse
- B2 = second fastest late pace horse
- C1 = best overall performance
- C2 = second best overall performance
C1 & C2 horses combined win approx. 40% of all races
C1, C2, C3 and C4 horses combined win approx. 70% of all races
A1 and A2 horses often win despite having low C ratings
B1 and B2 horses are often surprise long shots that win from off the pace in races that went too fast, too early
A1 and A2 horses win more sprints than routes
B1 and B2 horses win more routes than sprints

Horse racing is a game of maybes. It is not an exact science by any means. However, you will see common scenarios repeat themselves over and over, and the fact the favorite loses approximately 70% of all races makes for an easy-to-spot scenario that plays out multiple times a day at every race track:
